With a marker, we hand-trace every contour directly onto the canvas.
This careful step divides the image into well-defined areas like a drawing ready to be filled in.
Each line indicates a color or material change and guides the artisan during tufting.
More than just a sketch, this step lays the visual foundation for the rug, ensuring balance and precision once the wool is applied.

Once the design is traced onto the canvas, it’s time for the heart of the process: tufting.
Using a tufting gun, the artisan manually inserts the wool through the fabric, zone by zone, color by color, following the hand-drawn outlines.
This step requires precision and consistency. Every line and curve is filled smoothly to ensure sharp shapes, balanced volumes, and uniform textures.
The direction of the yarn, the density, and the rhythm of tufting all influence the final look and feel of the rug.
It’s here that the rug truly begins to take shape the canvas fills with wool, the colors come to life, and the initial design becomes material.

Once tufting is complete, the rug moves into the finishing phase.
Our team begin by applying a layer of glue to the back of the canvas, securing every strand of wool in place.
Once dry, a backing fabric is added to reinforce the structure and ensure long-lasting durability.
Next comes the careful trimming of the outline especially important for custom shapes or die-cut rugs.
Each line is cut with precision to follow the contours of the design. The edges are then cleaned, adjusted, and sometimes stitched for a flawless finish.
Finally, the rug is hand-sheared to even out the pile height, refine the design details, and reveal the full precision of the craftsmanship.

Tufthappy began with the story of two friends passionate makers who discovered tufting in 2020 and started their journey… in a basement.
Faced with growing demand, they searched for skilled and reliable artisans, and decided to rewrite the rules.
Their ambition: to make tufting simple, customizable, and accessible to everyone.
To achieve this, they teamed up with talented craftspeople and specialized production partners, capable of bringing to life everything from one of a kind pieces to large-scale projects.
Today, Tufthappy has grown but its mission remains the same: to become the go-to name in tufting, without ever losing the spirit of its early days.
